Low turnout in Sandersville special election

SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Voter turnout was pretty low in during a special called Mayoral Election in Sandersville. Citizens of Sandersville have been without an elected mayor the last 45 days.

In the earlier part of June, Walter "Buzz" Jack resigned so he could retire from his job as a teacher. Jack could not retire from one state job while holding another state job.

Jack is running in Tuesday's election along with challengers Marie Cotten, Jimmy Hill and Bryan Rowell.

Polls will remain open until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
