Number of auto burglaries spike in Petal

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - The Petal Police Department is seeing a rise in the number of auto burglaries.

Over the last couple of weeks, approximately eight cars have been broken into throughout Petal neighborhoods. Detectives said these robberies are a result of folk's leaving valuables in unlocked cars, parked in front of their homes.

Detective Mitch Nobles said, "It's basically an open invitation for thieves scoping out homes to steal important personal items."

The robbers have hit homes off of Main Street, Waller Street, Cochran Street, West 5th Ave., West 6th Ave, and Miley Drive.

Nobles said, "A lot of valuable items were taken such as purses, cell phones, wallets, GPS units. We are encouraging the public to be aware of these types of crimes. Be sure to lock and secure your cars and also remove any valuable items when you get out.."

If you see any suspicious activity going on in your neighborhood contact Petal Police or Metro Crime Stoppers.
