HPD still trying to identify woman in surveillance video

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Police are still trying to put a name with the woman's face caught on surveillance video Sunday night at Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

Lieutenant Eric Proulx said investigators have received a few leads from the public, but still haven't been able to track down the woman that left 11 puppies tied to the gate outside of the shelter with plastic ties and bale wire. One puppy was found dead, the other 10 were put down.

Prolix said, "As of July 1,  the new animal cruelty law went into effect, it will still be considered a misdemeanor but after the first conviction any subsequent conviction would be considered a felony. It's a tragic, unfortunate incident that happened but we are doing everything in our power to make an arrest."

Under the new law, the woman  faces a $2,500 fine and up to six months in jail.

Hattiesburg Police hope the public can help identify this woman. If you have any information, call Hattiesburg Police or Metro Crime Stoppers.
