LAMAR CO., MS (WDAM) - Lamar County Firefighters remain on the scene of a fire that broke out at around 7:00 p.m. in the Bent Creek Sub-Division. The fire occurred at a home in the 200 block of Bent Creek Road.
When the first responders got to the scene they found the home fully engulfed, with flames shooting through the roof. Lamar County Fire Coordinator George Stevens says the fire is believed to have started by a lightning strike to the home.
None of the residents of the home were harmed in the fire, however one firefighter injured his hand on a nail.
Volunteer firefighters from Oak Grove, Central Lamar, Northeast Lamar and Sumrall fought the blaze, but the home appears to be a total loss.
