First full day of fun in the sun at Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp

FORREST COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Abbie Rogers Civitan Camp at Camp Iti Kana in South Forrest County is in full swing.

The camp is a week long camping experience for children and adults with significant disabilities. The first week is for the children and the adults arrive next Monday for their week.

The camp is run by a volunteer staff of 75 people and 90 teenage volunteers who give up a week of their time to make the camping experience great for the children and adults. Each of the teen volunteers is teamed individually with one of campers.

Activities include swimming, boating, fishing, horse back riding, and dancing.

The camp was founded in 1961 by Abbie Rogers. She ran the camp until her death in 2007.
