Jones firefighters give former Ellisville chief firefighter sendoff

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Funeral services for retired Ellisville Fire Chief Sam Fletcher were held Tuesday at the Jones and Son Funeral Home in Moselle. The 67 year old Fletcher passed away Saturday after losing his battle with cancer.

Firefighters from Ellisville, Jones County, and Laurel attended the funeral to say goodbye to their friend and brother.

Fletcher served with the Laurel Fire Department for 25 years, retiring as Senior Captain. He also spent 12 years as Chief for the South Jones Volunteer Fire Department. He retired in 2007 after serving 5 years as the Ellisville Chief.

"One of the best people I could Ever come across," said Ronnie McGilberry, Ellisville Fire Chief. "I could call Sam and ask him for information. He was more than happy to help me out."

Burial was at Bullock Cemetery in Sanford.
