Two Lumberton police officers fired

LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - After a special meeting Thursday, the Lumberton Board of Alderman decided to fire police officers Cassandra Fortenberry and Christopher Franklin.

This decision was made after the two officers were suspended last week for three days for insubordination.

Three part time officers were also let go. Currently Chief Adrian Fortenberry is on leave.

The board has appointed Captain Dennis Hobsen as Interim Chief.

Hobsen said, "People in this town are trying to make it a racial thing and it is not. It is just about doing what is right for the City of Lumberton. Nobody is here to profile against anyone, I just come in and do my job and expect the other officers to do the same. I don't know how long I will be in this position, but while I am, I want to fulfill my duties for the City of Lumberton."
