HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A longtime administrator with Hattiesburg Public Schools is retiring after more than a quarter-century of service to the district. Associate superintendent of education Jimmy Hopkins is saying goodbye after 27 years.
A surprise reception was held for him this afternoon at the school district's administrative offices.
Hopkins most recently served as the district's interim superintendent for 8 months after the retirement of former superintendent Dr. Annie Wimbish. And he reassumed the title of associate superintendent after the School Board hired Jim Bacchus to permanently lead the district.
Prior to coming to Hattiesburg, Hopkins taught at Meridian Public Schools and served as the principal of Piney Woods Country Life School.
