Dropping gas prices encourage holiday travel

HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM)-   A three-day weekend is on the way for the Independence Day holiday.

Some Pine Belt residents say the ease at the pump is encouraging them to hit the road for some Fourth of July fun.

According to the Lundberg Survey of fuel prices, gas has dropped about 11 cents. In the Hub City prices averaged $3.35, and the State Capitol had the lowest price average at $3.32.

People say those prices are low enough for holiday travel.

"I'm probably going to splurge," said Peter Kelly of Seminary. "I am sure I will spend five to $600 worth of gas driving around California. Even though it is down to $3.30, and it looks great. I remember when it was like a buck something."
