Three people arrested for alleged illegal scrap metal transactions
HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Forrest County Sheriff's Office arrested three employees of Hattiesburg Recycling on Roy Tucker Road last week on charges of illegal scrap metal transactions.
Twenty eight year old Kristi Amacker, 22 year old Tony Murphy, and 25 Brittany Reid all face numerous charges involving transactions they performed involving the purchase of scrap metal for cash from the public.
State law requires that the scrap buyer keep records of the seller's identity and tag number and cash cannot be paid out for items such as beer kegs, copper items, and other expensive, often stolen items.
The law is designed to cut down on the number of thefts of scrap metal by criminals from businesses and homes.
The charges against Amacker, Murphy, and Reid are misdemeanors.
