JCJC ACT camp offers fun, learning

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - While most high school students are enjoying their summer break from school, 64 area students took advantage of a new camp offered by Jones County Junior College to improve their ACT or American College Testing scores.

The sophomores, juniors and seniors from 23 different high schools from Gulfport to Raleigh spent three days on campus getting insight from three JCJC instructors.

Gulfport High School junior, Olivia Appel signed up for the ACT camp hoping to improve her scores.  "I've taken the test six times and I want to go to college out of state so I need a good score to offset the out-of-state tuition.  I think the camp helped me because I got through more of the Science questions than in the past and it was easier for me to understand."

The goal of the camp was to provide a variety of learning activities enhancing educational goals as well as test-taking abilities.  After a day of intense learning, the nightly fun activities offered campers an overall learning and fellowship experience.  "I made lots of new friends," said Appel.  "I really enjoyed playing laser tag and staying in the dorms."

A copy of the book, "The Princeton Review", an ACT prep book on test taking tips was also provided to each camper.  For more information call JCJC Student Services at 601-477-4030.
