HATTIESBURG,MS (WDAM) - The new Hattiesburg Public School Superintendent received a warm welcome Tuesday afternoon by Hattiesburg City Council members.
A reception was held at City Hall for James Bacchus before the council met for their regular meeting. Refreshments were served while the new superintendent mingled with council members and city leaders.
Bacchus says he's excited about the upcoming school year and has many plans.
"One of the key things that we want to be focusing on is our initiative called, "Cradle to Third Grade". We want to make sure that by the time kids get to third grade they're all proficient readers. So, in order for us to do that we want to start with the cradle, start working with their first teacher or first small school with parents," said Bacchus.
