From Hattiesburg to Hollywood

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Brenda Venus, a Hattiesburg native and current entertainment industry professional, is back in her home town this week helping to close the clothing store her late mother founded named DeVille's.

Venus originally left the Hub City as a young woman after winning a beauty pageant in Texas. Her career then took her to Los Angeles where she appeared in the 1975 film, "The Eiger Sanction" alongside Clint Eastwood.

Afterwards, Venus acted in some religious films and met the late novelist, Henry Miller, who taught her about writing . Miller is known for works like "Tropic of Cancer."

During her career in the entertainment industry, Venus has also learned some important tips for young women that want to forge careers in Hollywood.

According to Venus, "Don't ever let any one tell you that your dreams can't come true because all of mine have. And I'm a girl from a small town in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. And you can do anything you want to do if you work hard and are disciplined and you are focused."

Venus's most recent project is a documentary film that she directed, produced and wrote called "Love and Sex in LA."
