Petal wounded Marine welcomed home as hero

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - A 22-year-old Petal Marine who was wounded in Afghanistan earlier this month received a hero's welcome home from hundreds of friends and family Saturday morning.  Residents lined the Gandy Parkway and Highway 42 to see Corporal Colte James, who was guest of honor in a procession of dozens of vehicles that made their way to Petal High School.

James is recovering from multiple wounds he received on June 4 when his combat vehicle flipped over after an improvised explosive device detonated.  No one in the vehicle was killed.

James spent the last several days in a Naval hospital before returning to Petal Friday.

He received the Purple Heart Medal for his injuries.

James will be on convalescent leave for about a month before returning to Camp Lejeune, N.C.  He plans to leave the Marines after his enlistment ends in December.
