State and local candidates speak at Purvis forum

PURVIS, MS (WDAM) - Nearly three dozen candidates for state and local political office gathered in Lamar County Thursday night for a forum on the issues. It was held at the Multi-Purpose Center in Purvis.

The event included candidates for governor, lt. governor and attorney general. Local candidates running for city attorney, tax assessor and collector and justice court judge also spoke. It was broadcast live on statewide radio.

"We were very fortunate to have 7 gubernatorial candidates come," said Bob Ghetti, general manager of WFMM-FM Radio, who organized the forum. "We had a total of 14 state candidates that signed up for the forum, we've got 3 public service commission candidates, 2 highway commission candidates and then over a dozen Lamar County candidates," Ghetti said.

He is also considering hosting a similar forum in Forrest County before the Aug. 2 primary.
