MISSISSIPPI (WDAM) - The Mississippi Department of Human Services is offering an assistance program to financially help low-income elderly, disabled or families with young children with paying their power bills.

"We have senior citizens and disabled people that are having to choose between buying food for the table, paying the electric or gas bill for the home or buying their prescription drugs. This is a way that we can help those individuals," said Mark Dearman of the Rankin County Human Resource Agency.

The program is offered once or twice a year and is funded through federal dollars.
