PETAL, MS (WDAM)- With hurricane season upon us, Dixie Electric Power Association wants to make sure its customers are prepared. Lydia Walters, Communications and Resource Manager, says the company is hosting several energy awareness days.
"Our goal is to educate the public on hurricane preparedness. June 1st is when hurricane started so we want out members to be prepared,' said Walters.
Pollyanna Magee, Communications Specialist says first is your hurricane check list.
"We have a hurricane awareness table to get you prepared for a hurricane or any storm in that fact. We have a first aid kit here for anybody who wants one of those. Hurricane tracker maps. Hurricane evacuation maps. This is just a kit to show everybody what you might need to get prepared. From medicine, a lot of people forget their prescriptions. Money. Gas. There is just different displays and also your weather radio," said Magee.
If you ever wonder why it may take longer for your power to return after a storm, Dixie Electric had a step by step answer.
"We get the power from South Mississippi Electric, then it goes on down to us and our substation, then into the homes and its just a process of who gets their power on first. Big subdivisions get it on and then we will get to personal matters at the end," said Magee.
Customers received energy efficiency tips, generator safety and Administration and Finance Manager, Aaron Zumwalt introduced new online options.
"We are changing up the bill cards to go to a full sized bill. So, we can provide more information to the members. Also, we are going to take payments online e-billing through the web site. Try to give more payment options to the members," said Zumwalt.
