HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Stion manufacturing plant is on target to open in the 1st quarter of 2012.
The company San Jose company is leasing 280,000 square feet of the old Sunbeam plant in the Industrial Park in Hattiesburg. When they begin operations, they will manufacture thin film solar panels. They intend on investing $500,000,000 in the plant over the next six years. In that time the workforce at the plant is expected to grow to 1000.
They currently are working on getting the plant ready for operation by installing equipment and training employees. They have hired 33 employees and expect to have 100 by the end of the year.
ADP President Chad Newell says the 1000 jobs at the plant will be huge for Hattiesburg.
"It also puts us on the high tech map. Certainly we are already there, but this further accentuates that by having a company locate here and make thin film solar panels," said Newell. "This is state of the art technology and so really it puts us on the forefront of this clean energy, green energy initiative."
The Hattiesburg plant will be Stion's largest manufacturing plant.
