77 Camp Shelby soldiers return to base

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Officials said Thursday all 77 Air Force cadets have been released from area hospitals and have returned to Camp Shelby. All are said to be doing fine.

Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center sent 77 Air Force Cadet personnel to local hospitals in the Hattiesburg area for medical evaluation Wednesday after being in the area of a lighting strike at approximately 2 p.m.

Four people were close to the lighting strike.

Col. Steve Parham, Camp Shelby Commander and all Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center personnel responded the event.

    A Saturday night shooting in the Hub City injured one and landed another behind bars. Coby Butler, 56, of Hattiesburg was arrested Saturday night and charged with one count of aggravated assault.  Hattiesburg Police Captain Branden McLemore said both the suspect and victim are homeless, and the shooting happened in a homeless camp in the wooded area behind 5696 U.S. 49. around 6 p.m.  “The victim, was shot in the chest with a pellet rifle,” said Hattiesburg Po...More >>
