Hattiesburg, Laurel Blockbuster's going out of business

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg and Laurel Blockbuster video stores will close their doors for good Friday.  The stores are part of the franchise Twin States Video who is closing all 12 of their locations this week.

Both stores are  having a liquidation sale at their locations where everything will be sold. DVD's and Blu Ray's will be priced at $12.99, $9.99, or $5.99. All games are priced at $12.99. Other items will be up for sale such as equipment, televisions, and file cabinets.

The Hattiesburg Store on Hardy Street has been at their location for twenty years. Store manager Patrick Mize says with all the avenues people have to get movies, Blockbuster can no longer compete.

"The video store used to be a great place to come," said Mize. "As we've changed and as the industry has changed, customer patterns have changed. Going to kiosks or perhaps through the mail and we are not always the top choice. We tried, especially with our customer base, very loyal, very friendly, customer base through the years."

Both stores liquidation sale will be from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
