Mount Olive teen competing in National Distinguished Young Women Program

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - A Mount Olive teen is getting ready to travel to Mobile, Alabama to compete in the National Distinguished Young Women Scholarship Program.

Eighteen year old Hannah Roberts was selected as Distinguished Young Woman for Mississippi in July of 2010 earning her the right to represent her state at the national competition.

The scholarship program is in its 54th year and began as the Junior Miss program. The name was changed in 2010 to help differentiate scholarship programs from pageants.

Tuesday Roberts held a Trunk Show at Saint Elizabeth in Collins to show off the talent she'll be performing during the event and showcase the outfits she'll be wearing during the competition.

"Two weeks is a very long time to be away from home," said Roberts. "I'm nervous about the two weeks and I'm also nervous about competing. But I'm excited about meeting the 49 other girls. It will be a good two weeks."

The competition will take place the June 23, 24, and 25.
