PINE BELT, MS (WDAM)- Little rainfall combined with moderate winds is forcing some Pine Belt counties to issue burn bans. As of June 6th, Stone, Pike, Jones, Marion, and George counties were on the list.
Jones officials say they have responded to dozens of out of control grass, brush and woods fires over the past month with conditions worsening.
"We are urging residents to call 911 in the event of a fire and to be extremely careful in trying to extinguish any out of control fire," notes Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna. He adds, "We've already had one serious burn injury incurred by a resident fighting a woods fire and do not want any other citizens to suffer a burn injury.
