Heat causes 83-year-olds death

PRENTISS, MS (WDAM) -  An 83-year old man is dead tonight, after he tried to put out a fire in his pasture with a broom.

Jefferson Davis County Coroner Greg Blackwell says Homer Ellis Mcleod of Prentiss was burning leaves in his yard, when the flames spread to his pasture.

Blackwell says Mcleod tried to put the blaze out with a bloom, and past out from the heat before he could put out the fire. Blackwell says Mcleod burned in the fire.

Granby Volunteer Firefighters were called to the scene. Mcleod's body has been taken to Jackson for an autopsy.
