HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Boy's State at Southern Miss came to a close Saturday morning.
More than 275 young men from around the state spent the week learning the legislative process and political proceedings. Mock campaigns and elections were held for state and local government offices.
During the closing ceremonies several awards were handed out including one for best city which went to the City of Thompson.
During the week the delegates heard from several state, local, and U.S. government officials including Congressman Steven Palazzo who spoke at Saturday morning's proceedings.
"I want to be here to have a conversation with our future leaders, not just the great State of Mississippi, but for our nation, said Palazzo. "Not only to find out what they enjoyed about creating a simulated government, but also to just tell them about what the big issues are in Washington."
