WALTHALL CO. (WDAM)- Dexter Attendance Center in Walthall County caught fire Friday evening burning the main building of the school.

Authorities said main building was fully engulfed when the call came in at 5:28 Friday evening.

The school Superintendent Danny McCallum said the school offices, records, a computer lab, and several classrooms are destroyed.

McCallum said firefighters from Mississippi and Louisiana battled the blaze for several hours until they managed to get it under control.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.  However, neighbors in the community say a power surge hit about 15 minutes prior to the fire being reported.
