HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Both political parties are lining up candidates to assume the Speaker of the House position. Herb Frierson, Representative of District 106 could potentially be one Republicans have in mind.
After more than 30 years in the Legislature, House Speaker Billy McCoy is putting down the gavel. Frierson, who has been in the Legislature for 20 years said he wants to see a stronger House of Representatives.
Frierson feels, "For the last 8 years it has been very weak. As Republicans, we have been on the outside looking in. We have had a liberal leadership that is more interested in punishing us and keeping us down than doing what's right for the people of Mississippi, especially this region of the state."
Frierson said the house leadership has been ineffective. He hopes to bring the House back together and establish stronger more conservative policies.
