Mississippi State beats Southern Miss 3-0 at NCAA Regional in Atlanta

ATLANTA,GA (WDAM)-Mississippi State earns a win in an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2007.  Bulldogs beat in-state  rival Southern Miss 3-0 in the first round of the Ga.Tech Regional in Atlanta.

MSU sophomore Luis Pollorena was outstanding. He pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball, allowing just 5 hits.   The most important run of the game was scored in the first. Nick Vickerson knocked in Ryan Collins who had reached on a fielders choice.

Brent Brownlee's 2 run single in the sixth made the score appear to be insurmountable for Southern Miss. Eagles haven't scored a run in 25 consecutive innings.

MSU advances to play the winner of host Georgia Tech and fourth-seeded Austin Peay Saturday. USM will take on the loser of that game in an elimination game tomorrow at 2 p.m.
