Daylily Society prepares for Saturday's show

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Members of the Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society were busy Thursday preparing for their annual show that takes place on June fourth at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Flower enthusiasts spent time on Thursday cleaning many different types of daylilies so they can be sold to customers on Saturday.

Visitors to the sixteenth annual show will also be able to participate in a seminar on daylily care and view the many flowers that will be judged by experts in several divisions.

Additionally, folks can purchase a cookbook published by the Daylily Society called, "Daylily Delights."

Barbara Watts is a member of the Hattiesburg Area Daylily Society. Watts said, "They are really in awe of the multiple colors and shapes and forms and sizes of the daylily because so many people think of them as the old yellow and old orange flowers. But we have beautiful edges, eyes and all shapes and sizes of daylilies now."

Watts said the daylilies will be on sale for the public starting at ten thirty AM at the Convention Center.

As a freshman quarterback playing behind one of the best athletes to come through Columbia Academy in recent years, Thomas Erastus “Ras” Pace got his first career start in what was arguably the Cougars’ biggest game of the 2016 season. “I thought I did a pretty good job handing the ball off,” said Pace of his starting debut in a second-round MAIS AAA playoff game in place of the inured Wiley Cleland.
