LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -  People came out to Veterans Memorial Museum in Laurel for the Memorial Day program.

With umbrellas and fans in hand to ward off the heat, folks honored the men and women who made the supreme sacrifice of giving their lives for America.

They paid tribute to the troops who serve today. Doctor Randy Turner, pastor of First Baptist Church of Laurel was the speaker of the program, and a purple heart was presented to Arnold Flowers.

"As we come to mark Memorial Day here at the Veterans Museum here in Laurel, we are having a special day because we are trying to write a wrong that was done 69 years ago to a mister Arnold Flowers. Today we will present his Purple Heart to him for his experience in the conditions that he lived in as a prisoner of war during World War ll," said Victor Lee, Veteran.
