The recent discovery and disposal of Osama bin Laden filled most Americans with an even deeper sense of pride and appreciation of our Seals in particular…Special Forces in general and all our military in an even larger sense. This was a dramatic display of the quality of the people who put their lives on the line to protect us. There have, no doubt, been many such stellar moments in the War on Terror that we will never hear about. No less heroic are all the men and women whose boots are on the ground in dangerous places fighting against fanatical people bent on the destruction of our way of life. Many are giving their lives and limbs in today's struggle as they have in conflicts since the beginning of this great nation. They certainly don't do it for the money. Neither, in today's all volunteer military, do they do it because they are compelled to do so. They stand out as the cream of the crop in our society and they are dedicated to keep us safe and free. They do the hard things many can't or won't. They go to places that are often hellish in nature. And they don't always come back. Memorial Day was established to first give reverence to all those in our armed services who have given their lives in defense of America. But we should also remember those who have had their lives forever altered by lost limbs and permanently handicapped bodies or minds. We should extend our thanks and recognition to all who serve. Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. Be sure to remember and say a prayer for those who serve and the families of those who give the last full measure of devotion…their life's blood. We are in the debt of them all—past, present and future.
I'm Jim Cameron with today's Viewpoint. Let us hear from you.
