VFW, Youth Challenge team honor Vets

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Members of VFW post 3036 and Camp Shelby's Youth Challenge Program teamed Thursday morning to honor veterans who have passed away.

More than 2500 flags were placed at the grave sites of veterans in cemeteries throughout the city. The flags were placed at Highland, Roseland, and Oaklawn Cemeteries to honor the vets in preparation for Memorial Day.

"The cadets, they really enjoy doing this community service project," said Lt Col Rickie Hosey, Youth Challenge Program. "They know how important it is to honor our nations veterans who have gone before them."

Similar tributes are taking place at cemeteries throughout the Pine Belt in preparation for Memorial Day.
