Laurel will save roughly $64K once its police chief retires

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel Police Chief Walter Martin is the highest paid city employee behind the mayor and the chief administrative officer.

Laurel Chief Administrative Officer, Dennis Keveryn said the city will save roughly $64,000 once Martin retires.

He said Deputy Chief Tyrone Stewart will be replacing Martin.

Keveryn said that Stewart's salary will increase by $7,000.

Meanwhile, Stewart's deputy chief position will not be filled.
