Southern Miss lose two top pitchers for CUSA tournament

PEARL,MS (WDAM)-Southern Miss may participate in the CUSA Tournament at Trustmark Park in Pearl without two of it's best hurlers.  Pitchers Geoffrey Thomas and Jonathan Thompson are academically ineligible for the postseason.

According to Southern Miss sports information director Jack Duggan, Thompson won't be playing as long as the Eagles are playing this summer. Thomas is ineligible right now, but his status is pending.  Official word could come soon.

Thomas was named first team All-CUSA early today. In just his second season, He has already made a huge impact. He leads Conference USA in victories with 10, is seventh in innings pitched with 84.1 and is 10th in opposing batting average (.241). The Stone Mountain, Ga. native has a 3.09 ERA and has pitched two complete games.

Southern Miss begins play in the CUSA tournament Wednesday vs. Tulane.
