HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - District 41 State Senator Joey Fillingane officially launched his campaign for his second full term in the State Senate.
The launch took place Monday evening at a reception hosted by State Treasurer and republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves.
Reeves says he feels the senate needs good conservative members like Fillingane who not only stand up for conservative values but also for the issues facing the people in the Pine Belt.
Fillingane, who is unopposed in the race, says he expects redistricting and the budget to continue to be the big issues in the legislative and he hopes for better cooperation between parties in the future.
"I do feel like the entire legislature is becoming more conservative. Not necessarily more republican, but more conservative," said Fillingane. "I do look forward to working across the aisles. When it comes to it a project from my district. I don't care if it's a republican issue or democratic issue. It's a district 41 issue as far as I am concerned. So you have to work with whoever you have to work with in order to get that accomplished."
