JCJC plays Saturday in JUCO World Series

ELLISVILLE,MS(WDAM)- The Jones County Junior College Bobcats know who they will play in the first round of the NJCAA Division II World Series.

The Bobcats will take on the Des Moines Area Community College (Iowa) Bears at 4 p.m. on Saturday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Okla. The 4,000-seat stadium has served as host for the World Series for the past two years.

The game will be audiocast live on www.jcjc.tv with Lance Pittman on the call. Airtime is 3:55 p.m.

The 12th-ranked Bobcats (42-15) of head coach Christian Ostrander shocked the juco baseball world by beating defending national champion and 2nd-ranked LSU-Eunice twice on Saturday in the Region 23 Tournament at Holmes Community College. JCJC got a two-run, walkoff home run from Ladd Rhodes to win the first game, 6-5. The Bobcats then scored four runs in the eighth inning to overcome a 6-4 deficit and beat the Bengals, 8-7, to claim the championship.

Des Moines (46-16) is rated No. 7. They captured the District II (Regions 9, 11 and 13) championship with a 20-1 decision over Williston State College (N.D.) on Sunday.
