Hattiesburg participates in "Bike to Work Day"

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The City of Hattiesburg has joined a national effort to encourage people to go to work on 2 wheels instead of 4. The city took part in, "National Bike to Work Day" by setting up water and energy stations across town.

Mayor Johnny Dupree and other city officials pedaled around downtown, in hopes of encouraging others to do the same.

And members of a local bicycle and pedestrian advocacy group are hoping to see more bike traffic around town.

"It's a healthy alternative," said Chris Carr, president of Pine Belt Pathways. "You save gas when gas is almost $4 a gallon and it's fun. It will definitely wake you up and have you ready for the day," Carr said.

Today also wraps up "National Bike to Work Week."
