Southern Miss acquires works by Tasha Tudor

HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - The famed De Grummond Children's Literature Collection at Southern Miss is welcoming a new acquisition from internationally known author and illustrator, Tasha Tudor.

Tudor passed away in 2008, and 28-hundred pieces of her bibliography are now housed at Southern Miss. The De Grummond Children's Literature Collection received these items due to the efforts of a New Hampshire couple and a Kentucky based foundation.

Both groups wanted to ensure Tudor's extensive work was preserved and available to researchers. Tasha Tudor's accomplishments include nearly one hundred illustrated books including a famous version of the classic tale, Mother Goose. Carole Kiehl is the Dean of University Libraries at Southern Miss.

According to Kiehl, "The De Grummond Collection is actually one of the premier children's literature collections in the nation. And this is a premier collection that we are adding so it really does increase our national stature."

Currently, Southern Miss Librarians are processing Tudor's work. They plan to eventually have an exhibition show casing Tudor's books and interests at the university.
