Three children, two adults killed in Jones County wreck

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A two-vehicle accident on Highway 11 near Moselle claimed five lives just before 3 p.m. Sunday, three adults and two children.

Investigators said the two vehicles were traveling south when a white Chevrolet Suburban attempted to pass a Pontiac Grand Prix. The two vehicles sideswiped forcing the Suburban off the road and over a guard rail. The vehicle hit a power pole, and then the Suburban rolled and came to rest in a creek bed.

Most of the occupants of the Suburban were ejected from the vehicle. Five of the occupants died at the scene. A sixth was airlifted to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not harmed.

State troopers said the driver of the vehicle Joanna Milam, 27, of Moselle was killed along with 7 year old Timothy Milam, 26 year old Bruce Myrick, 6 year old Tommy Myrick, and 5 year old Haley Sumrall. Myrick's wife, Janet, is listed in critical condition at Forrest General Hospital.

The driver of the second car was not injured.

Highway 11 in Moselle was shut down for more than two-and-a-half hours while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.
