HATTIESBURG, MS. (WDAM) - Monday is National Law Day. To mark the occasion, the South Central Mississippi Bar Association hosted a luncheon for their members.
Association officials explained that they have been marking National Law Day for years in the Hub City. The holiday was established by President Eisenhower in 1958 to mark the value of a government based on the rule of law.
Hattiesburg area judges and lawyers observed Law Day on Monday at Southern Oaks House and Gardens in Hattiesburg and heard a keynote address from Mississippi Supreme Court Justice, Randy "Bubba" Pierce.
According to Pierce, "The rule of law is critical to making sure our Judicial branch of government is respected and that our attorney's that are practicing the law out here in our courtrooms in South Mississippi and beyond, that they have the respect of our citizenry as well."
This years Law Day theme focused on the legacy of America's very first President that was also a lawyer, John Adams.
