Hattiesburg lends supplies, volunteers to Alabama

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Many tornado victims in Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee are being helped with disaster assistance supplies from Hattiesburg.

The American Red Cross is sending thousands of boxes of disaster relief supplies from its Disaster Field Supply Center, located in the former Sunbeam plant at the Hattiesburg Industrial Park.

The 150,000 square foot facility is one of only 7 across the nation which have supplies pre-positioned for distribution after tornadoes, floods or hurricanes. The DFSC has sent 30 truckloads of supplies to tornado-ravaged areas in the last few days.

Currently, the Red Cross has 300 volunteers helping with disaster relief across Mississippi. They have distributed more than 18,000 meals and 1,500 cleaning kits.
