Serteens organize N.E.Jones students to help tornado victims

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Serteen Club of North East Jones High School is reaching out to help victims of last weeks tornados in Mississippi and Alabama.

With the help of their classmates they have collected two class rooms full of much needed supplies for the areas affected by the storms.

The Serteens are affiliated with the Sertoma Club and are made up of young men and women from age 11 to 19. They perform service projects around the year with the goal being to improve their world through service to mankind.

Club President Katelyn Welch said the club was looking for one last project for the school year when the storms hit.

"The tornados happened up North and we realized this would be a perfect last project," said Welch. "We decided to get the whole school involved and not just the Serteens and we ended up with all this stuff and its just overwhelming with all things we have."

The supplies will be distributed by the Jones County Baptist Association in Smithville Mississippi and in Alabama.
