HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The National Day of Prayer is May 5. Each year, Mayor Johnny DuPree hosts a prayer breakfast to commemorate the day, and urge people to pray about things going on across the country.
The keynote speaker at tomorrow's event will be Mike Espy...former Secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture, and former U.S. Representative from the 2nd District of Mississippi. Mayor DuPree says the National Day of Prayer is a time for everyone to reflect, especially with the things happening in the world in the past few months. He said, "It's a time when all of our communities all across the nation, and they pray for not only unity, but safety, and all those things that this country's about. So it's a good time for the community to come together."
