HPD conducting two separate investigations into alleged officer misconduct

HATTTIESBURG, MS (WDAM)-The Hattiesburg Police Department's internal affairs division is reportedly conducting two separate investigations into alleged misconduct by some of their officers.

7 On Your Side has learned that a member of the Hattiesburg NET, or Neighborhood Enhancement Team, is being investigated for allegedly using excessive force on a suspect. We are also told there is a video of the alleged incident. The results of that investigation could come as early as Wednesday.

In a separate incident Petal police confirm they were called to a residence in the friendly city at 3:08 Sunday morning in response to a disturbance involving a gunshot.

According to the incident report, only the homeowner was present when officers arrived. We are told the home belongs to a Hattiesburg police officer and that he was throwing a birthday party for another officer when a fight broke out between the officer and some civilians attending the party.  During this incident a gun was fired into the air.  We are told Hattiesburg internal affairs picked up the incident report from Petal police. Hattiesburg Police Chief Frazier Bolton says the officer will be disciplined within the department.
