Leaf River drowning victim identified

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM)- The Jones County Sheriff's Office has identified the man who drowned while swimming in the Leaf River in Eastabuchie Sunday.

Officials say the body of 24 year old Christopher Lee Taylor of Hattiesburg was recovered around midday and was taken to the Jones County Morgue for positive identification.

Search and Rescue teams worked for almost tree days to locate the missing man and had to battle swift undercurrents and large amounts of debris in the search area, making search efforts treacherous.

The search for the missing man was a joint effort involving emergency responders from Jones, Forrest, Lamar, and Pike County, as well as Petal and The Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Department.

"I'm very grateful that there were so many agencies that assisted in the search and rescue efforts of the victim,"said Alex Hodge, Jones County Sheriff. "There were countless hours spent searching the Leaf River at Eastabuchie Park. With Team work they were able to recover the body. We extend our prayers to the Taylor family during their time of bereavement."
