HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - South Mississippians have gathered at Southern Miss Friday to raise funds to fight cancer.
They are participating in the annual Relay for Life, hosted by the American Cancer Society. It's a 12 hour event which began at 6:00 Friday evening. The Hattiesburg Relay is the first one held in the Pine Belt this year. The Relay for Life dates back to 1985. Today, relays are held in more than 5,000 communities and 20 countries.
