Two killed by Jasper County tornado identified

JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - Two Jasper County residents Beverly and Michael Maily of Louin, were killed when their mobile home was pick up and tossed through the air by the tornado Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service rated the tornado as an EF-4 as it passed over Jasper County.  Winds estimated at 170 mph destroyed dozens of homes, including the home of the  Morgan family in  Rose-Hill.

George Morgan says they are counting their blessings "They said there it is, and it sound like a train, and it hit, and it was over with. I looked, and everything was gone."

Keith Schraenkler, also of Jasper county, described the scene as if it were written for a movie. "Before it even appeared there was a whole herd of cows coming down that hill, birds and everything come down and then the tornado came up right behind it."

The tornado tracked many miles over Smith, Jasper and Clarke county, killing eight people all together.
