SMITHVILLE, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi's death toll now stands at 33 from this week's violent storms.
The Monroe County coroner says another person from Smithville died Thursday in a northeast Mississippi hospital.
There are now 14 deaths from Smithville alone. The town of 900, in Monroe County, was the hardest-hit Mississippi community from storms that pounded the South on Wednesday.
Authorities say 32 people were killed in Mississippi Wednesday and one was killed Tuesday.
Thousands of structures are damaged. Gov. Haley Barbour says he's asking President Barack Obama for a federal disaster declaration for the entire state.
Barbour says state and local emergency agencies continue assessing damage, and National Guard troops are on duty in Smithville.
