Spirit of Women prepare to host former First Lady

HATTIESBURG, MS - (WDAM) The final preparations are being made at the Lake Terrace Convention Center, to host former First Lady, Laura Bush.

The event, called 'Caring from the Heart', held by the Spirit of Women, has a "Yellow Rose of Texas" theme, for Mrs. Bush, a Texas native. Bush has focused much of her philanthropy to promoting better health care for women, and in order to honor other Pine Belt philanthropists and volunteers, the Spirit in Action awards will be handed out at the event. Millie Swan, who is in charge of putting the event together, says the main goal is to get women to take action for themselves.

Swan said, "Women have a tendency to put everybody ahead of themselves. They make all the doctors appointments for everyone else, they make sure the kids have everything they need, they may be caring for parents or grandparents, so this is really about: ladies, take a day out for yourself, and come, have wonderful conversation, wonderful food, and see a wonderful First Lady of the United States."

Although the Spirit of Women expected the event would be a success, Millie said they were surprised when all 1,000 tickets sold out in just 30 minutes.
