One of Petal's original firefighters will be buried Tuesday

PETAL, MS (WDAM) - One of the Friendly Cities' original firefighters will be buried Tuesday in Sunrise.

Sixty two year old Johnny Anderson lost his battle to cancer Friday, April 22.

Anderson joined the Petal Fire Department 36 years ago, first as a volunteer and later as a full time firefighter. He retired a few months ago as a logistics chief.

City Officials say it was Anderson's wish to have a firefighters funeral so a Petal fire truck transported his body Monday from the Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg to the Sunrise Baptist Church.

Several residents lined Central Avenue and Main Street to pay their respects as the procession went by.

Visitation is Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the church.

The funeral is Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial in the Sunrise Baptist Church Cemetery.
