Passenger dies in a Jones County car accident...Driver arrested

JONES CO., MS (WDAM)- A one vehicle accident claimed the life of a Sandersville man Thursday night around 9:30.

According to Sergeant John Carter with the Jones County Sheriff's Department,  35 year old Kalvin Jarrell of Ovett was driving North on Ned Billard Road when he lost control of a '95 Toyota Tercel striking a tree close to the intersection of Choctaw Road.  The passenger of the vehicle,  49 year old James Hilbur Lewis of Sandersville was pronounced dead on scene.

After further investigation into the accident Sheriff Hodge said Kalvin Jarrell received treatment for minor injuries at South Central Regional Medical Center and was later arrested and taken into custody by Jones County Deputies for DUI/Death of Another.

Sergeant Carter  added, "An investigation into the accident reveals that alcohol and speed may have been a contributing factor in this accident. I extend condolences to the family of the deceased on behalf of Sheriff Alex Hodge and the Jones County Sheriff's Department."
